Employee Spotlight — Brittany and Guerline

Brittany and Guerline –
The Dynamic Duo LNAs who Lead by Example
Lead licensed nursing assistants (LNAs) Brittany and Guerline have been taking care of residents at Bowman Place for two years and three and a half years, respectively. They also both have daughters, like to smile and hands down say the best aspects about working at the senior living community are the residents and the friendships they’ve established at Bowman.
“I enjoy the residents most about working here,” says Guerline. “We talk with them, laugh, and even dance sometimes. It really feels like a second home.”
“And the friendships,” Brittany chimes in, “With both residents and coworkers. The teamwork is great.”
The friendship between Brittany and Guerline is especially strong. That’s how they earned their nickname, The Dynamic Duo. When they’re not busy caring for residents, you can find them together, sharing lunch or a laugh.
As lead LNAs, Brittany and Guerline conduct a lot of training for new staff members ensuring they understand how to properly provide care and help them get to know the residents and the building. They also oversee care assignments while continuing to provide direct support to residents.
“It’s very much a teamwork mentality here,” says Brittany. “We still have our own assignments, but we also help support everyone else.”
“We lead by example,” said Guerline. “We don’t just give people assignments – we work alongside them.”
While Brittany grew up locally in New Hampshire, Guerline hails from the Caribbean island of Haiti. She’s able to speak her native language of French with a number of residents who also parlent français.
When asked what brought both women to Bowman Place, similar themes connect their stories – caregiving.
“I love helping people,” said Guerline. “It’s personal for me. My mom is back in Haiti. Being here, the residents feel like my family. Like my mom or grandmother. It’s a pleasure to take care of them.”
“I used to be a personal trainer,” said Brittany. “I studied exercise science in school. I enjoyed it, but I wanted to move more into healthcare. So, I made the switch and became an LNA. Being an LNA, here – it’s not just a job. You have to have a passion for this work.”
